Many couples choose to go abroad for their wedding, whether that be to exotic locations such as Hawaii, Maldives and Bahamas, or slightly closer but none the less beautiful European locations, for example Santorini, Spain and Malta…
If you choose to get married abroad there will be lots to consider, particularly how the weather will be… You will more than likely going abroad to ensure that the weather on your wedding day is lovely and allowing for picture perfect photography, along with this comes new ideas and new things that couples will have to consider:
clothing: you may have dreamed of the big (meringue) dress but when it comes it it you may prefer something lighter for the big day- there are many reasons why a lighter weight wedding dress come in handy: flying: weight for your carry on of your wedding dress (no one wants to have to check in their wedding dress just in case the worst happens and your luggage gets lost- you’ll already have enough to worry about without potentially not having your dress there. comfort: it’ll be hot- you may want to consider a lightweight dress that you can still look beautiful in but will also be comfortable for saying I do, dancing and enjoying the day in it.
guests: if you are expecting guests to join you abroad for your big day then you will need to make specific considerations for those, what is the weather like? could it be too hot/ too far a journey for those guests you want who may be elderly, unable to travel long haul and who have small children- remember that you must make considerations and expect people to have to decline an invitation for an abroad wedding simply because they cannot afford to travel and take a long period of time off work. Don’t be offended if those close to you have to let you down, let them celebrate with you at a later date…
Reception: what is becoming a popular tradition with couples who get married abroad is to have a reception when you arrive home (and you get to re wear your wedding dress- how many people can say they can do that?) make it a fabulous night- follow the theme of your destination wedding into your reception, if you had your wedding on a beach you could consider a cocktail bar, quirky table decorations and why not have a box of flip flops- continuing your theme and a fantastic excuse to keep everyone on the dance floor… No one can complain their feet are hurting!
