Stationery…A time to order

So you said yes and have set a date? Congratulations! – Now here is where the fun starts, letting everyone know your wonderful news!

At Paper Themes we love to help with your wedding planning in any way we can. One piece of essential advice is when to order you wedding stationery, so we have put together a timeline of advice to give you a helping hand!

8-12 Months to go…

We know it takes time to put together the finer details of your day, but you don’t want your nearest and dearest booking their annual holiday while you’re getting hitched so a great little tool is the Save the Date card – and it does exactly that! Generally these should reach your guests around 8 months before your big day, although for weddings abroad you may want to send these a year or more in advance (your guests will need to save up and book accommodation and flights just like you!).


5-8 Months to go…

So you’ve seen your venue(s) again and gone through the finer details? Then it is time to order your wedding invitations. We suggest you order these at least four months in advance- traditionally your invites go out to your guests about 8 weeks before the big day.

By shopping around 5 months or more in advance gives you time to receive samples, make a design decision and finally make the all important order giving you time to receive and address them to your guests. If you have attended a wedding before you’ll know that the invite more than anything else sets the tone for the wedding so we feel it’s key to select something that symbolises you and your event


It may seem like a daunting task but once you have chosen your invitation it’s a good idea to choose your other stationery to match, so everything else will just fall into place! We have complete stationery sets of all our designs to ensure your event will be seamless!


Another element to order with your invitation is your reply cards- you’ll need to know who can make it so you can tell your venue and know the quantities of your other stationery items, favours and also work out your seating plan.

3 Months to go…

By now you should have received your invitations and started writing them so you should start thinking about sending them out. Go out & buy your stamps, it is also good etiquette to add a stamp to your RSVP cards however it is not essential.

Once you have sent out your invitations allow between 2 to 6 weeks for your guests to RSVP (if time permits) – Now you can start shopping around for wedding favours, discuss and choose your menu options and decorations so you are ready to order once you have had your RSVP’s and your final guest list.

1-2 Months to go…

The big day is getting closer and it is time to order your order of service, favours, table plans, menus and any table decorations you haven’t yet purchased.
