Rolling Back the Years:
Vintage Wedding Styles in 2013

Over the last few years there has been a real move towards vintage weddings and it is a trend that remains strong so far in 2013.

Couples are opting for retro themed celebrations; offering a boost to some of the more traditional wedding venue options.  Avoncroft Museum in Stoke Heath have reported that around half of their wedding bookings are for celebrations that will incorporate a vintage theme.

So, what is it that is influencing couples to go for the more traditional approach?  Well, Emma Townsend of Avoncroft believes that it may have something to do with the Royal influence:

“I think Kate Middleton’s elegant wedding dress and Downton Abbey have inspired couples to base their wedding day on the refinement of days of old.”

There have also been several well-known celebrities opting for classical wedding dresses recently, most notably movie star Anne Hathaway.

However, it isn’t just the bridal gown and venue choice that couples are choosing carefully. In order to achieve that vintage feel throughout, there are many other details to be considered. Some ideas that you could incorporate include:

  • High tea with finger sandwiches, scones and cakes
  • Ivory chair covers
  • Traditional floral table centre pieces
  • Wedding bunting

There are of course many other embellishments that you could introduce and far too many to mention here. However, if you are aiming for a vintage wedding theme, there is one element that you shouldn’t overlook; your choice of wedding invitation.

Never lose sight of what an important role your wedding invitations play in setting the whole tone of your big day. Their design, wording and selected fonts all serve to give guests an indication of what kind of affair your wedding celebration will be.

There are is wide selection of vintage wedding invitations available, with many focussing on floral designs and that classic country garden vibe. If you are looking for a more formal approach then something similar to the navy buckle design complete with diamante, as shown above, could be the right choice for you. We also stock some fun vintage wedding invitations, such as the bus ticket design displayed.

Finally, if you really want to go the extra mile, we also produce letterpress wedding invitations. This type of invitation is printed using a traditional letterpress printer, which serves to sink the wording into the card. You can learn more about this process in our blog post about letterpress printing.
